Facial hair

Facial hair in women is caused by higher levels of male hormones known as androgens, including testosterone. While all women produce androgens, the levels are typically low. When these levels are slightly elevated, facial hair can become more noticeable. Although all women have some facial hair, it may appear darker or thicker in some individuals. Causes of facial hair growth in women can include menopause, hirsutism (excessive hair growth), puberty, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and genetics.

Hair removal methods

There are various methods to remove facial hair, including laser hair removal, electrolysis, bleaching, depilation, shaving, and waxing. Laser hair removal and electrolysis offer permanent solutions by targeting hair growth at the root. Depilation and waxing provide temporary hair removal, but these methods require the hair to grow out before repeating the process. These techniques can sometimes be painful or leave the skin red and irritated.

Vaniqa for hirsutism

Vaniqa is a prescription medication for excessive facial hair, containing the active ingredient eflornithine, which slows hair growth in the follicle. It is only suitable for treating excessive hair on the face, neck, and chin.
