Causes and risk factors

The causes of constipation can vary. They may include a narrowing of the intestine, poor intestinal muscle function, hard and dry stool due to insufficient hydration, a diet lacking in fiber, the use of certain medications, or pregnancy.

What to do?

To alleviate constipation, it can be helpful to drink plenty of water, maintain regular physical activity, and establish a routine for bathroom visits. Adopting a healthy diet that includes fiber-rich foods, while avoiding unhealthy options, is also important.

If these lifestyle changes do not bring the desired relief, using a laxative may be considered. However, it is important to use laxatives with caution, as excessive use can damage the intestinal wall. In addition to laxatives, there are various supplements available that may help improve bowel movement.
