Ebixa is a medication containing the active ingredient memantine. It is used to treat symptoms of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and are experiencing memory loss, confusion, and difficulty with daily tasks, Ebixa may be suitable for you. It works by helping to regulate the activity of certain chemicals in the brain involved in memory and learning.
About Ebixa
Dosage and usage
For adults, the usual starting dose of Ebixa is 5 mg twice a day. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose to a maintenance dose of 20 mg per day, taken in two divided doses. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Do not exceed the recommended dosage, as it will not improve your condition any faster and may increase the risk of side effects. The effects of Ebixa may take several weeks to become apparent. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
What Ebixa contains
Each Ebixa tablet contains 10 mg of memantine (as memantine hydrochloride). The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate. The film-coating contains talc, macrogol 4000, titanium dioxide (E171), hypromellose, and iron oxide yellow (E172).
Side effects
Common side effects of Ebixa may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, and constipation. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include hallucinations, changes in vision, difficulty urinating, and seizures. If you experience any of these serious side effects, contact your doctor right away.
Precautions
Do not take Ebixa if you are allergic to memantine or any of the other ingredients in the product. Inform your doctor if you have a history of seizures, kidney problems, or liver disease. Ebixa is not recommended for use in children, pregnant women, or breastfeeding mothers. If you have any heart conditions or are taking other medications, especially those that affect the NMDA receptor system, consult your doctor before starting Ebixa.
