Mercilon

About Mercilon

  • Contraceptive pill
  • Highly effective
  • Not suitable for women who are breastfeeding

Mercilon is a combined oral contraceptive pill that contains two active ingredients, ethinylestradiol, and desogestrel. These hormones work together to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm from reaching the egg, and thinning the uterine lining. Mercilon is suitable for women who want an effective method of birth control.

Dosage and usage

You should take one Mercilon pill every day at the same time for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break. During this break, you will have a withdrawal bleed similar to a period. Start the next pack after the 7-day break, even if you are still bleeding. If you miss a pill, follow the instructions provided in the leaflet. Remember that Mercilon does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. If you experience persistent vomiting or diarrhoea while taking Mercilon, the effectiveness may be reduced. In such cases, use additional contraception methods.
