Saxenda is a medication that contains the active ingredient liraglutide. It works by mimicking a hormone in your body that helps regulate your appetite and food intake. This medication is suitable for adults who are overweight or obese and have weight-related medical conditions.
You should inject Saxenda under the skin once a day, preferably at the same time each day. The recommended dosage is gradually increased over a few weeks to help reduce the likelihood of gastrointestinal side effects. Your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate dose for you. It is important not to exceed the recommended dose, and if you miss a dose, do not double up. The effects of Saxenda can last for up to 14 hours.

Common side effects of Saxenda include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Do not use Saxenda if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2. This medication is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
