Zolmitriptan

For migraine relief, the usual dose of zolmitriptan is 2.5 mg or 5 mg taken as soon as your migraine symptoms appear. If your symptoms improve but then return, you may take a second dose after at least 2 hours. Do not exceed a total dose of 10 mg in a 24-hour period. If your migraine does not improve after the first dose, do not take a second dose for the same attack. The effects of zolmitriptan can last up to 24 hours. If you experience chest pain or a sensation of tightness, heaviness, or pressure in your chest or throat after taking zolmitriptan, seek medical help immediately.

Each zolmitriptan tablet contains 2.5 mg or 5 mg of zolmitriptan as the active ingredient. The tablets also contain excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, and croscarmellose sodium.

Common side effects of zolmitriptan may include dizziness, drowsiness, tingling sensations, and dry mouth. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include chest pain, irregular heartbeats, shortness of breath, vision changes, and signs of a stroke such as sudden numbness or weakness. If you experience any of these severe side effects, seek medical help right away.

Do not use zolmitriptan if you have a history of heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or certain types of migraines. Avoid this medication if you have severe liver problems or if you are taking other medications that interact with zolmitriptan, such as MAO inhibitors. Zolmitriptan is not recommended for use in children or adolescents. If you have any underlying medical conditions or are taking other medications, consult your healthcare provider before using zolmitriptan.
