Taking the contraceptive pill is a popular option for managing period pain. The hormones in the pill prevent egg maturation and ovulation, leading to less severe menstrual symptoms. Many women (80% - 90%) notice a significant reduction in pain when using the contraceptive pill, making it a highly effective remedy.
Other methods for managing period pain
Besides the contraceptive pill, there are additional ways to ease period discomfort:
- Heat therapy: Applying heat can help relax the muscles and reduce abdominal cramps. A heated pillow, hot water bottle, or heat patch can be placed on the lower abdomen for relief. Heat patches can provide warmth for up to 8 hours.
- TENS therapy: Another option is using a pain patch like Medisana Medistim, which utilizes TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation). The low electrical current stimulates the nerves in the skin, blocking pain signals to the brain and providing immediate relief.
